It started in 1981,

In a children’s book,

Children found it a great fun,

So Andrew took a look.

He thought it was a work of art,

Magnificent and great!

And that’s when it did start,

when he sealed it’s fait.

When it was introduced,

The public thought it was a joke,

“Who would dare have this produced?”

“It would make the theater broke!”

That was all wrong and wasn’t true,

 CATS wasn’t ready to decline.

CATS went to Broadway, in 82

Most people saw this as a sign.

It stayed on for 20 years,

Averaging a show per day,

When it closed there were tears,

They hoped CATS could’ve stayed.
