Demeter was lying in the sun on top
of the car taking in the suns rays. Her fur gleamed like gold. Her soft purr was the only sound heard. The Junkyard was so
quiet. That was unusual with all the kittens running around. They made so much noise sometimes, and usually it was cause by
the entrance of the Tugger. Typical really. Demeter didn’t like Tugger all that much. It wasn’t like she hated
him or anything she just thought he was very immature and at his age. He flirted way too much. As a young adult he should
be looking for a queen to become mates with. That was just Demeter’s opinion. She was sure the kittens thought otherwise.
What bothered her the most was that
her closest friend Bombalurina was head over heels for him. She could get almost any tom she desired and she chose Tugger.
“Terrible taste.” Demeter thought to herself. All this thought of Tugger made her purr start to fade.
As for her, she always thought Munkustrap
was kind of cute. Everyone thought they made a cute couple but Munkustrap didn’t seem too interested in her. That made
Demeter slightly sad some days but she knew she shouldn’t let a tom get the best of her.
There was a loud thud and the car
shook. Demeter sat up startled and looked on the trunk of the car. Bombalurina was crouched on it from her landing. “Hi
Dem.” Her usual sultry tone didn’t have its usual sound. Demeter didn’t ask what was wrong. She knew she
was going to get the reason weather she wanted to or not. “I hate toms.” Bombalurina sat beside the golden queen
with her arms crossed.
“My everlasting cat I don’t
think I’ve ever heard you say that. Ever.” Demeter sounded astounded, “Tugger right?” Bombalurina
nodded with frown. Demeter hugged the older queen, “I’ve been telling you forever: Tugger isn’t for you.
He’s not worth all this heart ache.” She could tell that Bomba wasn’t really up for a lecture on how much
better she could be doing. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. Tugger’s
just a big jerk.” Bombalurina’s expression looked deeply depressed, “I do everything he wants, and then
he just dumps me.” Bombalurina pushed away Demeter’s hug.
“Once again, typical Tugger.”
Demeter smiled trying to make Bomba smile as well. All attempts failed. “What would you do if Tugger came up to you
right now?”
“I’d tell him how much
I hate him and that I’d rather be dating trash because it treats me better.” She pouted.
“Well here’s your chance,
he’s coming this way.” Demeter made a little giggle at her remark about trash. Bombalurina’s head snapped
to the direction the Tugger was coming from. She bolted into the car through the broken window. “Where are you going?”
She asked softly poking her head in.
“If he asks I’m not
here.” She whispered lying on her stomach on the seat so she was hidden. Demeter sat up straight again preparing to
face the Tugger.
“Hi Demeter.” He smiled
charmingly, “Not that I need to ask, but have you seen Bomba?” he jumped onto the car next to her. Bombalurina
stayed as low as she could.
“No.” Demeter replied
simply and quick. She wanted Tugger out of here so her and Bomba could do something besides sulk over him.
”See I know that’s
a lie.” He pointed a finger at Demeter nearly touching her nose. He was pretty close to her to begin with.
She slapped his hand away, “Why
do you say that?”
“Because I saw the pretty
queen dart into the car.” He smiled almost laughing, his thumb over his shoulder pointing to the broken window.
“That wasn’t Bombalurina.”
Demeter needed to cover it up; of course how she was going to do that wasn’t exactly planned out yet.
“Oh yeah? Then who was it?”
He knew Demeter was lying. He also knew that Demeter would lie for Bombalurina.
“It was…”
Demeter paused. “Damn I can’t pull this off.”
“Mhm…” Tugger
smiled. He peered into the car seeing Bomba laying on her stomach, “Hi pretty kitty.” He cooed. She sat up looking
very irritated. He slid beside her on the seat, “How are you?”
She just glared at him for minutes
that felt like hours.
“By the way your looking at
me, I can tell I’ve upset you. What have I done now?” He laughed.
“It’s not funny you
fat sack of crap!” She hissed slapping his chest, nails scrapping him.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa!”
He backed off a little bit, “What got your tail in a twist?” He snapped.
Bombalurina looked up at Demeter
watching the two. She was looking for words that she couldn’t find. “Go on Bomba, tell him what you told me.”
Her gaze went back from Demeter
to the tom before her, “Tugger…” She made a dramatic pause.
Tugger motioned for her to hurry
up, “Spit it out already.”
She hissed at him, “I hate
you! You never let me take my time for anything!”
“That’s what you wanted
to say to me?” He sounded shocked.
“No, I just decided to let
you know that.” She replied sharply, “I hate you more then anything! Trash treats me better then you do!”
He was looking at her all puzzled,
“Wait what? Did I miss something?”
“Tugger, your such a jerk!
You just use me to get what you want like a back rub or to give you all the kisses you want! Well guess what: not anymore
fleabag! It’s over!” She leapt out of the car storming past Demeter.
Demeter looked down at the Tugger
who looked mystified. Maybe he was still trying to contemplate what had happened. She went after Bomba not even giving him
a second look. Demeter ran around the Junkyard looking for her, but couldn’t seem to find her. Where could she be? She
heard rustling near her and jumped back. Mistoffelees emerged from some trash.
“Oh Mistoffelees you startled
me…” She let out a sigh of relief.
“I’m my apologize.”
The black cat replied with a smile of courtesy.
“Your friend Tugger has really
outdone himself this time.” She added lowly.
“Tugger? What did he do?”
The tom knew Tugger always did something wrong. Wasn’t too big of a surprise. He was actually kind of half expecting
him to do something today. He hadn’t caused trouble in some time.
“He’s broken Bombalurina’s
heart.” Demeter frowned.
“Again?” Mistoffelees’
tone didn’t sound surprised.
“No he really has. She actually
confronted him and told him everything wrong he’s done. She broke up with him.” Demeter exclaimed.
He was quiet trying to take in everything,
“Oh my…” He mumbled, “Where is Tugger?”
“He’s in the old car.
Maybe you should go talk to him.” She suggested. She didn’t care much for Tugger but maybe that would keep Tugger
occupied for a while. Mistoffelees nodded and made his way to the car taking his time.
“Does that mean you care that
Tugger is upset?” Bombalurina’s voice came.
Demeter spun around facing her,
“Bomba there you are! You gave me quite a fright disappearing like that.”
“Sorry. I’m just came
to say I wanted to be alone and not to come looking for me anymore.” She softly stated.
“What? Why? Don’t you
need me right now to comfort you?” Demeter sounded surprised. Bomba always wanted her around even when Demeter didn’t
need to be there.
“I just want to be alone ok?”
She spat and walked past Demeter. Demeter feared the worst. If Bombalurina was going to become a wreak, she didn’t want
her wandering outside the junkyard. What could she do though?
Mistoffelees approached the car
and heard soft sobs. He was baffled. Who was crying? He saw Cassandra crying quietly near the oven. “Cass?” He
asked softly. She looked up at him sadly, “What’s the matter?”
“Alonzo and I… we…
broke up…” She whipped away her tears watching the black furred tom sit beside her.
“Don’t be sad Cass…
I’m sure there are other toms that could love you twice as much as he ever could.” He patted her back.
“Why do you care?” She
shifted away form him a little, “You’re the conjuring cat, your not usually seen talking or thinking about relationships.”
“Just because I’m never
seen talking or thinking about them doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to have a special queen in my life.” He
replied.
“You’re an awesome tom
Misto, what queen wouldn’t want to be with you if you asked them?” She had stopped crying.
“I don’t know. I’m
not really interested in any queens around here. I’m still waiting for the right one to come around.” He looked
around, “There must be many toms that are interested in you.”
“Yeah… probably…”
her tone was soft. “Where were you off to?”
“I was going to see Tugger.”
Mistoffelees replied. He snapped back to reality remembering that he was suppose to be going to find Tugger, “I’m
sorry Cass but I need to go find Tugger.” He stood up, “I’ll see you later and I hope you feel better.”
“Thanks Misto…”
He softly replied watching him walk away.
“Tugger?” He called
approaching the car, “You there?”
“Yes…” He mumbled
sounding angry still sitting in the car.
Mistoffelees jumped beside him on
the seat, “What’s a matter? You sound angry.”
“What’s the matter is
that Bomba just walked out on me!” He spat. “Who does she think she is?”
“Well Tugger… to be
honest, you never treated her all that well.” Mistoffelees admitted, “You could ask anyone else, and they’d
probably agree with me.”
Tugger shot him a nasty look, “it’s
not my fault she can’t take a joke.”
“Maybe you made one to many
jokes…” He added, “Tugger if you really like her, you’d apologize and hope she’ll ever talk
to you again.”
Bombalurina had left the Junkyard
and wandered pretty far away. She was sprawled on a rock wall showing off every elegant curve she had purring to herself.
She was purposely trying to draw attention. She stretched out and let out a dreamy sigh.
Macavity sniffed the air. He could
smell a queen, a familiar one. He always loved to have get togethers with old friends. He padded around looking for her. He
spotted red on a wall and knew that he had found the queen. He found a spot where he could be kept hidden but still see her.
He watched her for several minutes. She sat up and jumped off the wall. Se laid on the grass and rolled about. “Is
she in heat?” He asked himself. Her scent didn’t tell him that but he could be wrong.
Bomba rolled in the grass enjoying
the lush moist feeling it had. She purred loudly and mewed for a second. Macavity couldn’t contain himself. He had to
approach her. It was now or never. He padded towards her silently still keeping the element of surprise. He was only a few
feet away now and he was wondering how to let her know he was there. He didn’t have to though. She sat up and looked
at him. Her eyes went big and she stumbled back on her rump.
“Hello Ms. Red.” He
had a very low and deep tone. She was trembling, regretting that she came so far or even left the junkyard, “Don’t
be afraid. I’m not going to hurt you.” He knelt down in front of her.
She moved back until her back was
up against the wall. “What do you want?”
“Let me ask my questions first.”
He interrupted her. She glared at him. He was so rude. Almost like Tugger, “Are you in heat?”
“What?” His question
wasn’t what she expected.
“Answer the question.”
He demanded, “Are you?” She could tell he was anxious and wanted her to be in heat.
“No…” She replied
bitterly. That was actually her being honest.
“No matter. Doesn’t
mean I can’t have a little fin with you right?” he moved closer to her.
“Stay away from me!”
she warned trying to back up more, although she was against a wall.
“No. You were teasing me with
your purring and rolling around.” He grinned. His head nuzzled against her shin.
“Back off!” She kissed
kicking him in the head. She stood up to run but he grabbed her tail and flung her into the wall again. She hit it hard becoming
unconscious. When she came to her senses Macavity was holding her down. She struggled to a great extent forcing him to let
go of her. She stood up and dashed away. Macavity wasn’t giving up. He pursued her until he tackled her down. He held
his hand to her neck choking her.
“Show you to try and get away!”
He hissed. Her hand slapped him harshly across the face. He slapped her back. She grasped his hand that held her throat. He
grasped her wrist holding onto it tightly creating bruises. She gasped for air. Everything went blank.
She woke up being carried by a silver
figure. Her face nestled up against his chest. “Thank heavyside for you Munkustrap.” She said in her mind.
It went dark again as she lost consciousness. She woke up again to see Demeter’s green eyes watching her.
“Bomba?” Her voice was
filled with hope. “Bomba!” She flung at her hugging the dear queen.
“Ow careful.” She replied.
Her back was killing her and her had pounding. She was lying on an old blanket, which didn’t cause much comfort.
Munkustrap appeared from behind
Demeter, “Are you um… are you ok?”
“Yeah… besides the fact
that my head is pounding my back is aching and my wrist is all bruised up, I’m fine.” He sarcastically replied.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t
get to you sooner… At least Macavity didn’t get a chance to rape you or anything.” He frowned.
“What did he get to do?”
She narrowed her eyes.
“That’s not the point
Bomba.” Demeter interrupted, “The point is that he saved your life.”
“Whatever
Demeter, stick up for your love why don’t ya…” Bombalurina mumbled.
