Munkustrap groaned and attempted to move his body. He cried out in pain feeling a sharp pain in his leg, as if someone
were stabbing a knife into it, it wasn’t until he found the strength to look at his leg that he discovered there was
a knife in his leg. There was blood, everywhere.
“Munkustrap!” Alonzo cried running over to Munkustrap
lying helplessly on the ground. Silver and ginger fur floated around in the air, while the rusty cage’s door swung gently
in the breeze. Plato was gone.
“Dear Heaviside,” Jenny gasped putting both hands over her mouth, “What
happened here?”
Munkustrap was beaten to a pulp. He was scratched and bruised everywhere. There were patches
in his fur where fur was missing and chunks of his flesh gone. “Macavity came and took Plato,” he clenched his
teeth as Alonzo knelt next to him.
“Keep still,” Alonzo spoke softly as he drew the knife out of Munkustrap’s
thigh, forcing the helpless silver tabby to cry out in pain. Blood gushed out of the wound and Munkustrap felt himself becoming
light-headed from the strong scent of blood. He trembled in his deranged state and shut his eyes tightly.
“We
need to-”
“No,” Tantomile cut Jennyanydots off, “Allow me.” She rested her hand on Munkustrap
sweaty forehead and closed her eyes. Minutes passed by, but slowly Munkustrap’s wound began to heal. Both Alonzo and
Jenny watched in silence unsure whether the mystic queen required silence. Tantomile’s eyes opened, and Jenny let out
a breath as if she had been holding it the entire time. “I’m sorry I can’t heal you completely,” Tantomile
frowned as Alonzo helped Munkustrap up, “But I hope that’s better.”
“It is,” Munkustrap
forced a smile but it was over powered by a pained expression as he put weight on his left leg.
“You need to
rest,” Tantomile stated with sympathy, “The wound is gone but the internal damage us still there.”
“Fantastic.”
Munkustrap growled as pain continued to burn its way up his leg and caused him to feel nauseated.
“She’s
right,” Jenny added, “Alonzo, take Munkustrap to the tire. You can Jellylorum can take care of him there.”
“Munkustrap, get on my back. It’ll save you a lot of un-needed walking.” Alonzo offered looking
a bit sick himself. The blood that covered the ground was disgusting. He wasn’t sure whether it was from both Macavity
and Munkustrap or just Munkustrap. Even if it were from both toms the amount was unbelievable.
“Thanks but I
can manage.” Munkustrap replied sounding determined, “Where are you two going?” He didn’t want help.
He didn’t think he needed it. Sometimes he was just as stubborn as Alonzo.
“To find Macavity,” Tantomile
announced from behind Jennyanydots, “He has hurt one to many.”
Munkustrap gave the mystic queen a single
nod and said, “Be careful.”
Alonzo and Munkustrap slowly made their way towards the tire. Munkustrap
had discovered hopping on one foot was the best way to travel and Alonzo discovered it was the slowest way to travel.
“Are
you sure you don’t want me to just carry you?” Alonzo raised an eyebrow.
Munkustrap stopped and turned
to Alonzo, “Look Alonzo, I know you want to help but I’m perfectly fine.”
”Keep telling yourself
that. The blood all over you is saying otherwise.” Alonzo rolled his eyes and walked on, “Stubborn idiot.”
“Where
do you think Macavity would have taken Plato?” Jenny asked Tantomile as the two walked towards the gates of the Junkyard.
“I
have no idea.” Tantomile frowned, “To the warehouse?”
”I doubt it. Macavity knows that’s
where you’d look,” Coricopat appeared from what seemed like nowhere.
“Cori? Why are you here?”
Tantomile asked more annoyed then shocked.
“I’m not letting you go find Macavity by yourself.” Cori
replied, “It’s dangerous.”
“Just because you’re my brother doesn’t mean you can
stop me from making my own decisions.” Tantomile narrowed her eyes at him.
“But I’m not trying to
stop you.” Cori defended, “I’m coming with you.”
Tantomile stayed quiet for a few seconds then
nodded, “Alright.”
”We still haven’t established where it is that Macavity has taken Plato.”
Jenny added, “Any ideas?”
”What about the lake?” Cori shrugged, “Down in the forest?
There’s an old shack down by the water. Maybe that’s where he took Plato.”
“Skimble!”
Alonzo exclaimed as he saw the red tabby sprawled on the ground looking as tragic as Munkustrap had when they found him.
Skimble
groaned and sat up feeling terrible, “Holy Everlasting cat…”
“Where’s Quaxo?”
Munkustrap made his way slowly towards them, hopping as quickly as he could.
The tom gave it a second to think about
it, and then Skimble replied in horror, “Macavity must have him.”
“Well isn’t that fabulous.”
Alonzo growled stepping away from the two for a moment to take a breath and relax himself a bit.
“Where, where
did they go?” Munkustrap questioned firmly wanting to go and help as quickly as possible.
“I don’t
know. Macavity came at me first.” Skimble frowned, “I didn’t see where they went.” He tried to stand
up but was so broken he could barley sit up properly.
“Don’t move,” Alonzo demanded as he heard the
red tabby struggling. “You stay here and rest.”
”Yeah, Alonzo and I can handle this.” Munkustrap
added.
Alonzo looked at Munkustrap, “You’re staying here.”
”No, I’m not.”
Munkustrap argued, “I’m a part of this too.”
”Yeah, and look what being apart of this has done
to you: Ripped you apart.” Alonzo argued back, “You can’t even walk. What will you do if Macavity attacks
you?”
“I don’t know, curl up in a ball and cry?” Munkustrap glared at him, “I’ll
manage, don’t worry about it.”
“The last thing this tribe needs is a dead protector.” Alonzo
looked at Munkustrap annoyed, “We already lost Victoria, we don’t need to loose you too.”
Munkustrap
stared at Alonzo for the longest time unable to find words to retaliate with. “Fine, but don’t let Tantomile and
Jenny get hurt.”
“I won’t,” Alonzo nodded. “Stay here with Skimble; I’ll get Jelly
to come help you both.”
It was dark, and the only real light that was provided through the thick forest
was distant street lamps and the large bright moon above them. It didn’t take a lot of light to provide a cat with perfect
night-vision.
“Why would Macavity have come here?” Jenny asked walking carefully through the woods.
“Because
this is where it happened.” Tantomile looked at Jenny while she spook.
Jenny didn’t need to speak again
to understand what Tantomile meant; this was where Macavity had attacked Tantomile, no doubt.
It gave Tantomile chills
to be back there in the forest. She hadn’t been there since Macavity raped her. She loved the lake, she loved sitting
at the waters edge trying to catch the small fish that came there. Not anymore.
“Be still,” Cori stopped
walking putting up his hand in a gesture to stop walking. Tantomile stopped immediately, nearly at the same time as Cori.
Jenny
slowed to a stop, “What is it?” She asked. Jenny was thrown to the ground by a Hench. The Hench was all black
with red stripes, similar to the Henches that had kidnapped Old Deuteronomy years before. All the air was forced out of Jenny’s
lungs as she hit the ground with a loud thud.
Coricopat and Tantomile jumped back almost expecting the ambush.
The
Hench didn’t speak, but simply glared at the mystics through right red eyes, like car lights. His eyes had no pupils,
and it confused both Coricopat and Tantomile. It confused Jenny as well once she regained her breath.
Coricopat lunged
at the tom making them both fall to the ground in the leaves and branches. Jenny could hear the rustling as she rolled onto
her hands and knees. She looked over at Coricopat and the Hench.
Coricopat had pinned the Hench underneath him and
picked up a large rock. He raised the heavy stone above his head and brought it down on the Henches face.
“What’s
happening?” Jelly asked as Alonzo was running towards her in the Junkyard. She carried a fluffy blue blanket with several
holes in it from much use.
“Where were you!” Alonzo snapped as he came and stopped in front of her.
”I
went to get Quaxo a blanket,” Jelly replied slowly not understanding why Alonzo was yelling at her. “Why?”
”Macavity
took Quaxo,” Alonzo yelled at her, “That’s why!”
She stepped back with a frown. How was this
her fault? It had been Skimble’s idea to get a blanket, not hers.
Alonzo closed his eyes and exhaled, “I’m
sorry Jelly.” He looked back up at her, “I need you to go and help Munkustrap and Skimble over at the tire. They’re
pretty banged up.”
”What happened to Munkustrap?” Jelly raised an eyebrow clutching the blanket tighter.
“Macavity
attacked him. They got into a pretty nasty fight from the way it look.” Alonzo went whiter then he was, “Blood
was everywhere.”
”Should I go get more medical supplies then?” She asked seeing the pale ill expression
on Alonzo’s face.
Alonzo nodded feeling his stomach clench, “Yeah.”
”Ok,” She
turned and began walking, “Wait, where are you going?”
”To the warehouse.” Alonzo replied with
an angry growl, “I’ve got a score to settle.”
”Alonzo don’t,” Jelly came back to
him, “You’ll get yourself killed! Have you any idea how many Henches Macavity has?”
“Alonzo
looked beyond Jelly thinking about her question, “Yes Actually, I do.”
Jenny blinked in horror
at what Coricopat had just done, until she realized what had actually happened. When the rock hit the Hench, he turned into
a black smoke, and disappeared. She didn’t full understand what had happened.
Coricopat stood up tossing the
rock aside. It rolled down through the tall grass until it came to a full stop. He was breathing heavily as he kept his look
fixed on the ground.
Jenny was frozen where she was, unable to move from her place, but it was from complete confusion
and fear.
Cori looked over at her, “An illusion.” He panted.
“What?” Jenny squinted
at him curiously.
Coricopat walked towards her and helped her up off her hands and knees. “It was an illusion.
Macavity must have conjured him up with his powers.”
“He can do that?” Jenny questioned standing
up, picking leaves and bits of dirt out of her fur.
“What can’t Macavity do?” Tantomile added negatively.
“He
can’t win against us, there’s what.” Coricopat replied strongly.
“Oh come on Cori, you’re
no fighter.” Tantomile rolled her eyes.
“I may not be a fighter,” Cori brought his hand up to everyone’s
view. It began to glow and give off heat until a flame formed over his palm, “But I am a mystic.”
Tantomile
stared at his hand in astonishment but not quite as mush as Jenny was. Tantomile looked at Cori with a smile, “You’re
a pyro.”
He nodded, “Yes.” He closed his palm and the flame disappeared as did the glowing of his
hand. “While you were off at the vet, I decided to test out my powers some more, see what I was really capable of.”
“That’s
incredible.” Jenny smiled, “I had no idea anyone could do that.”
”Well Mistoffelees could shoot
electricity from his fingertips.” Cori laughed quietly, “Only difference is his was an immediate reaction. I have
to wait a few seconds before fire is formed.”
”Still, it’s quite amazing.” Jenny still smiled.
“It’ll
come in handy, that’s for sure.” Cori added, “Lets keep moving.”
